Sustain your Community Project

OBEC is supporting the EnviroCentre on a project called “Sustain Your Community”. This project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, provide cost-savings for residents, and support community engagement over the next 3 years. They are focusing on energy conservation, water conservation, sustainable transportation, and local food. The three initial partner communities include Lowertown, Beaverbrook, and Constance Bay. If you are interesting in getting involved please contact: obeccommunication@gmail.com or michael.chung@envirocentre.ca

Smith’s Fall Community Roundtable

On Thursday 6 November, Jim Birtch made a public presentation on “Biosphere Eco-City Principles for Smiths Falls” at the Smiths Falls Community Health Centre. This was part of the Rideau Roundtable Speaker Series. As well, Jim facilitated a workshop on the BEC Theme of Food. There were presentations on four local food initiatives and participants provided useful feedback on these. As well, the workshop identified some key objectives for food sustainability in Smiths Falls. As follow-up there will be a second workshop on food and one on the BEC Theme of Sense of Place. Both of these will take place in Smiths Falls early in 2015.
