Two new public parks coming to Ottawa's Chaudière Island

(Theme 3 – Design, Theme 8 – Health, Theme 9 – Recreation)

Organization: National Capital Commission (NCC)

Timeline for Completion: 2022

Objective:

Two new public parks are set to open on downtown Ottawa’s Chaudière Island.

Pangishimo Park is a planned waterfront park that will be located on the western shoreline of Chaudières Island. It will be the first of three parks to be built on the shores of the Ottawa River, as part of the Zibi development. Pangishimo Park is scheduled to open in spring 2021.

Revitalizing the islands and shorelines of the historic Ottawa River and increasing public access to these places is part of the NCC’s priorities

The park on the east end of Chaudière Island will be called Mokahan Park, after the Algonquin word for sunrise. That park is expected to be built and opened by next fall.
