The Woods of Hampton Park – An Urban Forest to Preserve

The Woods of Hampton Park - An Urban Forest to Preserve

(Theme 4 – Habitat, Theme 8 – Health, Theme 9 – Recreation)

Organization: Friends of Hampton Park

Timeline for Completion: Ongoing

Objective:

An ecological study of the park is currently underway. Friends of Hampton Park is working on a number of stewardship projects to preserve the integrity of this forest.

Hampton Park is one of Ottawa’s most beautiful public parks. Situated on the southern boundary of Kitchissippi, it contains a small urban forest, the Hampton Woods.

The Hampton Woods isn’t just a nice perk to have in a community; yes, we need green sanctuaries for mental health, but we also need them for our basic survival.

Hampton Park is home to a number of species that are unusual to find in such a busy central neighbourhood, but we may never know what’s there if we love it to death. The Woods protect us from ourselves, for free. We need to start protecting the Woods from us.
