Spring on the Greenbelt’s Trails – Stony Swamp

Spring on the Greenbelt’s Trails - Stony Swamp

(Theme 4 – Habitat, Theme 6 – Natural Capital, Theme10 – Sense of Place)

Organization: The National Capital Commission

Timeline for Completion: Ongoing

Objective:

Stony Swamp, southwest of Ottawa, features a network of beaver ponds, wetlands and forests. This area offers over 40 kilometres of trails — more than in any other section of the Greenbelt. In addition, you will find wetland boardwalks and interpretive exhibits on geology and natural history.

Stony Swamp is the most ecologically diverse protected area in the Ottawa Valley.
The swamp’s bedrock dates back to Precambrian times, the earliest geological era. Stony Swamp is classified as a provincially significant wetland and an  Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI).
