Ontario Environmental Farm Plan – sustainably farmed

Ontario Environmental Farm Plan - sustainably farmed

(Theme 5 – Food, Theme 6 – Natural Capital, Theme 8 – Health)

Organization: Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association

Timeline for Completion: Ongoing Workshops

Objective:

Canada-Ontario Environmental Farm Plan – A voluntary environmental education and awareness program

The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) is a unique non-profit farm organization that represents all commodity groups across the province.

We are leaders in producer education, local association development, program delivery and consumer outreach.

The Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) is an assessment voluntarily prepared by farm families to increase their environmental awareness in up to 23 different areas on their farm. Through the EFP local workshop process, farmers highlight their farm’s environmental strengths, identify areas of environmental concern, and set realistic action plans with time tables to improve environmental conditions. The EFP can then be used in conjunction with cost-share programs to begin implementing their action plans.

The idea for Environmental Farm Plans originated from the Ontario farm community. Farmers have been involved in every stage of developing the EFP through the Ontario Farm Environmental Coalition.
