OBEC is organizing a one-day (4 Hours) workshop on Conservation of Habitat in (urban and rural) Ottawa. It will bring together members of the public with various organizations(including college, university and high school students) that are promoting habitat conservation in Ottawa. A fact sheet and map(s) on habitat in Ottawa, as well as speakers, will seed table discussions and a plenary. Light refreshments will enhance networking. The outcomes will be public education on habitat, connections among habitat groups and supporters, as well as suggestions on how to enhance habitat conservation in Ottawa. Our key note speaker is Dr. Nick Stow who is a Senior Planner in the Natural Systems and Environmental Protection Unit at the city of Ottawa. We also welcome Jennifer Lamoureux an Aquatic and Fish Habitat Biologist who will be speaking on Habitat Restoration in the Rideau Valley Watershed. Along with Donna DuBreuil, President and Founder of the Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre who will be speaking on Protecting Big and Small Spaces for Wildlife. Followed by Bryarly McEachern, Executive Director and Naturalist at Earth Path who will be speaking about plant biodiversity and its effect on habitat. Finally Dr. Henri Goulet, Research Scientist (Entomology) at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will be speaking about the Impact of Herbicide on the Decline of Insects which in turn affects habitat.
