Warwick Forest Conservation Area – Trekking the Trails

Warwick Forest Conservation Area - Trekking the Trails

(Theme 8 – Health, Theme 9 – Recreation)

Organization: South Nation Conservation Authority

Timeline for Completion: Ongoing

Objective:

SNC maintains several Conservation Area and municipal trails for passive winter recreation throughout Prescott et/and Russell and The United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry.

Groomed trails provide a sink-free layer of packed snow, making them more accessible for walking, hiking, pets, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Ever wonder how trails are groomed? Staff use four-wheelers equipped with snow treads, plows and groomers to carefully groom the trails without causing any damage or disrupting ecologically sensitive areas.

Motorized vehicles are otherwise not allowed on SNC’s trails for public safety, to maintain trail conditions and protect natural features.

Your Guide to Winter Cycling – Smart cycling, safe cycling

Your Guide to Winter Cycling - Smart cycling, safe cycling

(Theme 1 – Transportation, Theme 8 – Health)

Organization: Envirocentre – Transportation

Timeline for Completion: Ongoing

Objective:

Cycling is a rewarding activity and can be done year-round. If you are just beginning to cycle in the colder months, take the time to learn and build your confidence. With some bike preparation, a good route and the right clothes you can extend your cycling season.

Some tips for getting started:
•Bike on the nice days. Don’t start out in a snow storm! There are plenty of beautiful sunny days in the winter when the roads are clear.
•Use public transportation and combine it with a bike ride. Many buses have bicycle racks on the front well into the winter season or year-round.
•Try cycling in different conditions for leisure before you commit to a commute.
