Amber Lawrence

I have over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit world. I have founded 2 non profits from the ground up, worked on many different round tables and have worked with municipal, provincial and federal levels of government. I am presently the coordinator of a local charity that services youth ages 12 to 17.

Mathew Carey
Director at Large

Matthew is Legal Counsel for Hydro Ottawa Group of Companies, whose core businesses include electricity distribution, renewable energy generation, and energy and utility services. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Arts from Ontario Tech University. Matthew has been an active member of the Ottawa community and currently serves as a Director of his local Community Association in addition to OBEC’s Board.


Augustin Nzindukiyimana
Director at Large

Augustin has an educational background in Law and Business Administration. He was the Deputy Ombudsman in Rwanda and has experience in governance and anticorruption.

Eric Sonego

Eric is the longest member on OBEC’s Board of Directors. He is a highly certified accountant (RPA, APA, CIA, CMA(AU) & IIA – Internal Auditor) and owner of Eric Sonego Professional Group.

Rudi Aksim


After many years as a teacher at Algonquin College, in retirement I’m working on Climate Issues, helping to develop local projects.

Juliet Asikhia
Director at Large

Juliet holds a Master’s in Environmental Policy and Law (Specialty in Natural Resource Governance) from University of Eastern Finland and a Bachelor’s from Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland. She has several years of experience working with not-for-profit and charity organizations in such roles as program and administrative coordinator and project manager to create grassroots environmental and climate change awareness, especially in vulnerable communities. She has worked with the European Union and several Western African Countries (Ghana, Congo and Nigeria) to promote environmental awareness and gender equality.



Garland Yang

HR leader with 12 years of experience at Global Fortune 500 companies and start-ups. 5 years senior HR leadership role working with CEO/President/ED managing significant growths, M&A, challenges, and transformations. CHRL (Certified HR Leader). MBA and M.S. in Telecom Management, Oklahoma State University.
