Renfrew County Nature Notebook – Welcome Nature Lovers!

(Theme 4 – Habitat, Theme 6 – Natural Capital, Theme10 – Sense of Place)

Organization: Ottawa River Institute (ORI)

Timeline for Completion: Ongoing

Objective:

Renfrew County, in the Upper Ottawa Valley of Eastern Ontario has a great wealth of intact ecosystems and thriving rich biodiversity. Getting folks of all ages out to enjoy these vast riches is what this website is all about.

You will find here a collection of resources to help you find and enjoy dozens of beautiful natural areas, identify species of plants and animals that you see there, view other people’s photos and notes of their visits and share your own observations. There is also a primer on Citizen Science that points to many channels for sharing your observations with conservation and naturalist groups all over North America.

Suggested Destinations for October:
There are many wonderful places to walk in the Ottawa Valley. A good resource for finding trails is this page on the Nature Notebook website which provides links to information and maps on the following trails: Deacon Escarpment, Shaw Woods, Macnamara, Manitou Mountain, Griffith Uplands, Eagle’s Nest and the K and P trail.
